Weevil? on a fig tree. #834081

I purchased a new fig tree this spring only to find an insect I have never seen. I have searched insect databases and can only find vaguely similar looking weevils. I wonder if the grower of this tree is exporting insects as well as plant material.

That looks like the earliest stage (first instar) of the newish invasive Spotted Lanternfly. It's not likely it was shipped in because they jump when disturbed and they have become widely distributed within Baltimore County.
