Have a maple tree in the woods next to our home that is dropping leaves. The leaves have spots. Should I be concerned

Expert Response

We are currently entering a droughty period. If the tree is established and has otherwise been in good health, it should be fine. Trees will often do this as a way to manage water loss during drought. If you had issues prior to the drought starting, it might be wise to have the tree inspected by a certified arborist. It's possible that the spots you are seeing is maple anthracnose but I'm unable to make out the spots from your picture. I've included a link to find an arborist if needed and some information on maple anthracnose.
