A Cortland Apple tree in my yard produced many blossoms this year, but on one branch the blossoms turned brown and dried without producing fruit, and then it did not produce any leaves after the blossoms were gone.

Its not possible to diagnose from your description and pictures. However review the following web sites, particularly the second one where someone else had a similiar question. You may also contact the plant disease clinic to see if they can diagnose based on a sample you submit for a fee.
