Lilac leaves curling #832548

Asked May 29, 2023, 3:06 PM EDT

This late spring I have noticed lower leaves on a lilac bush curling, cupping and wrinkling. This bush is 25 years old and has always been healthy. I cannot find any evidence of insects, mildew, or fungus. Could you please tell me what's causing this. Thank you.

Hi Shawn,

I do not see any insects, pathogens (bacteria/fungal/viral) or any other source of this leaf curling.  I'm wondering if you or a neighbor has used any herbicide this spring close to the lilac shrub?  The leaf epinasty (curling, especially near the apex/margin) looks diagnostic to some volatilization of herbicide.  Anyway you could contact my e-mail address: <personal data hidden>?

Thank you!
