Definitive ID for Dogwood #831996
Asked May 25, 2023, 12:00 PM EDT
I recently got a White Dogwood from a Pepco/Arbor Day foundation program. I currently have it growing in a large pot.
About 6 years ago I obtained a "Native Dogwood" from another Arbor Day Foundation program. I planted it in the ground, it took 5 years before it bloomed and it is a non native Kousa dogwood. My intent is to remove the Kousa and replace it with the white dogwood from the Pepco/Arbor Day foundation program.
Is there a definitive way I can ID the the most recent dogwood is a native?

Hi,
It is difficult to tell right now with the young leaves and we can't zoom in on the photos to be able to see the buds close enough (something with the file size and how they loaded). It may be easier this winter to look at the twigs and buds anyways.
Oregon State University has some good photos of plant characteristics if you wanted to see in person if you can compare different traits.

Let us know if are having difficulty and maybe try to send photos of close ups of the buds if you can.
