Unidentified growth attached to my Hosta roots #831929
Asked May 24, 2023, 8:17 PM EDT
I was transplanting some hosta this past weekend and found some dark-colored, globe-like iorganisms attached to the hosts roots. I brought 2 samples of the globes as well as a sample of the type of hosta to the master gardener at the Eden Prairie Bachmans store to ID them.
I was told to reach out to one of your staff as soon as I could to get help from you to identify them. They are not a fungus, they are semi liquid inside and have a thin stem.

This appears to be Bacterial soft rot or fusarium crown rot.

The condition is far advanced. It may be beneficial to apply the fungicide to all hostas within a yard. Also, your tools including shovels, trowels, and garden scissors should all be thoroughly cleaned with lysol. Do not put any hostas in this area for a year. Do not divide any hostas in this area for propagation for a year.
