what's eating my hydrangea #829692

Asked May 12, 2023, 1:19 PM EDT

hi- I have a hydrangea bush, about 4' tall, that hasn't had any problems til now. Something is eating the very top leaves on a couple of branches. I don't see any pests when I inspect the bush. It's weird that something would climb up to the very top to munch a few leaves. Any ideas? thank you very much for your help!! ps I hope I have the right pics attached. I sent in another question about tree roots just now, with pics, and since I can't see the attached pics, I hope they are correct.

Thank you for your question, Chris.  These are the right photos, thanks.  The only chewing pest of hydrangeas are weevils, described here :  https://pnwhandbooks.org/insect/hort/landscape/hosts-pests-landscape-plants/hydrangea-hydrangea-root-weevil
First, you'll need to go out at night when they are feeding, and either capture one, or get a clear photo.  Then you can use this information to decide how to manage them:  https://pnwhandbooks.org/insect/hort/landscape/common/landscape-root-weevil
Please write back if you need more help.
