Asked April 23, 2023, 7:52 PM EDT

I have a 1 year old Dogwood tree.  I noticed no leaves on the tree.  Then I noticed leaves sprouting at base of tree.  What should I do??

Richard, You need to check for life in the top of the tree. Use your thumbnail to scratch through the bark starting with small twigs and work your way downward into larger stems until you find green tissue (cambium) between the bark and wood. once you find live tissue, prune out the dead wood to that point. the image below shows a dead twig (top) and live twig (bottom)
