Weird flower patches on Redbud trunk #825774

Hello, We noticed this Redbud tree in our neighborhood. The trunk has patches of flowers. We've never seen this-- are wondering what happened? Thank you.

Hi, 

This is typical for redbuds to have flower clusters along the trunks and branches. Usually most do bloom like that. 

Kansas State University has a blog post explaining this. It can especially happen on older trees.
