Time to treat Ash Tree for EAB with Bayer Tree & Shrub? #825764

Asked April 15, 2023, 11:32 AM EDT

Dear Friends, Owing to the unusually warm Spring this year, is it time to treat my Ash tree early this season? I've been using the Imidacloprid with some success the last several years but usually wait to early May just before the buds come out. Don't want to kill the bees! Thanks in advance for your help- Donald Jones Pleasant Ridge, Mi 48069

Expert Response

Hello,

Literature suggests that the pesticide should be applied when the tree is actually transpiring, usually after the tree has developed its full canopy, in the spring, late April early May. You should be able to apply it at the same time this year. Read more here: https://hort.extension.wisc.edu/articles/homeowner-guide-emerald-ash-borer-insecticide-treatments/

When using pesticides, read the label to ensure that it can be used on the plant in question and follow the directions for the proper amount to be applied.
