Hi Barbara,
Thank you for your great photo. This weed is Erechtites hieracufolia commonly called Burnweed, Eastern burnweed or fireweed. It commonly appears in land that has been cleared or burned off. It is in all the Eastern United States and along the west coast.
It is an invasive perennial herb and if you crush a bit of it you will notice it emits a not to pleasant odor!
If you need further assistance you can contact your local OSU Extension office at 208 S. Blackhoof Street, Wapakoneta, Ohio 45895 of call at 419/ 910-6050.
I hope I have replied to your request in a timely manner.
Sincerely,
Mike Heys, Franklin County Master Gardener
Dear Mike, Thanks so much for your help! I have been trying to identify the weed for quite some time without any success. Thanks again! Sincerely, Barb Ward On 2023-01-25 8:42 PM, Ask Extension wrote: >
