Wood species identification #817586
Asked December 16, 2022, 12:11 PM EST
Attached are photos of a wood species I am trying to identify. It is fairly aromatic (not distinctly cedar), very straight grain and has a slightly reddish tinge to it. I’ve attached three photos - the entire surface of the board, a closeup of the grain and a closeup of the end grain. This wood is reclaimed from high school gymnasium bleachers.
Any help you may provide would be great.

Hi Tom,
My sincere apologies for the delay.
While it is a bit challenging to identify wood from pictures, my guess would be yellow pine. The straight grain, fast growth (close annual rings) and slight aroma are good clues; further research shows that most bleachers are made from southern yellow pine.
I found the website below that gives tips on identification; perhaps the information will help to confirm, or identify the species?
