Apples are all bad #817399

Asked December 09, 2022, 5:38 PM EST

For two years in a row now our honey crisp and honey gold apples are all spotted throughout the Apple and none have been salvageable. Do you know what the problem is and how we can address it?

Expert Response

Hello Marcia,

It looks like you have apple maggots. This is a common problems with apples but you can do a couple of things to manage the problem and help you get a good crop each year.

The first and most important thing is clean-up. Be sure to clean up and remove all damaged apples.

You can bag the apples when they are young. This is quite a popular way to ensure some good fruit and you can find many good ideas online of how to do this. There are bags made specifically for this but you can also make your own.

We shave some good information on our Extension website:

I hope this helps you get a good harvest next year.
