Not sure what this tree is in the attached pics or if it can be identified by what is still attached to the branches after all the leaves are off. Are they fruits, nuts, or some type of flower? Thanks

This is our native witch hazel.  What a cool plant to find in your area!  The blooms open in early November with yellow strap-like petals.  What is left is that little "flower-looking" thing.  Here is a link for some more info. https://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheet/witch-hazel/
