Extension can’t recommend tree companies because it is impossible to stay current and review performance of companies often enough to recommend them. 
Extension can recommend companies that have arborists who are up to date on their training.

Because your tree is an ash, taking it  down maybe the recommendation. A certified arborist has the training to evaluate the safety and benefit of cabling. 
i highly recommend getting at least 3 bids to take care of your tree. There should be consensus on what to do and then cost can be addressed.
