Black Spots on Aloe Vera Plant #815589

Asked October 31, 2022, 10:14 AM EDT

I am seeing black spots spreading on my aloe Vera plant, and I’m not sure what they’re from or how to treat them. Can you offer any advice? I can follow up with photos tomorrow by email.

The first is from a cluster of pups and the second is the main plant.

I checked with out plant pathologist. Please see his comments below.

Several possibilities.

  1. Bacterial – water soaked lesions, obvious streaming when look for. I don’t think this is the case here!
  2. Anthracnose (Colletetrichum sp). Spots tend to be sunken and can have a dried out appearance as it progresses. I don’t think this is the case here either!
  3. Physiological – excessive water. For whatever reason, anthracnose-like spots are observed when there is excessive moisture – typically happens when there is irregular watering (I know as that occurs often on my own aloes). Best bet here is to repot and let regrowth.
Nonetheless, if 1 or 2 is still suspected – then suggest submitting sample (detached leaf) for pathogen recovery efforts for confirmatory diagnosis)

Thanks for the question.
