Soils Results #815307

I’m currently looking at purchasing land in Torrington. 100 acres of it is currently in corn and is flood irrigated. There is also sub irrigation through a canal that runs the length of the property. I’d like to inquire whether the rest of the land may be tillable. Is it possible to make the rest pasture? Would it have to be irrigated? Im just looking for answers as to whether the rest of this land would’ve usable for row crops or cattle. I look forward to your feedback.

Hi Russell,

It is hard to say for sure if the entire property would be suitable for producing irrigated row crops without physically inspecting the property. Looking at the soil map you have sent it appears that not all of the property would be suitable for growing crops. There are potential areas that are not currently irrigated that could produce row crops if irrigation infrastructure was installed. I'm also not sure based on topography, distance to the canal, water rights, or infrastructure needs if this would be possible. Have you confirmed that you would be able to buy and/or have the water rights to irrigate the rest of the property?  Most row crops will not produce a viable crop in Wyoming without an irrigation system. There is a chance that the property would be suitable for cattle grazing, but again I can say for sure without physically seeing the property.

Thanks,
