Was walking in S Longmont and came across a planted fall blooming plant. I can't ID it. Can you? Thanks Eric

Expert Response

Hi Eric - yes, I'm pretty sure that's a Japanese anemone. They grow well here in relatively moist, humus-rich soils - prefer partial shade. One caution - in my garden, they get invaded by blister beetles in the summer who ravage the leaves but leave the flower blossoms alone so it's not that big of a problem. They're readily available at our nurseries, but I'd wait until spring/summer to plant them.
