Tiny bugs #813640

Asked October 08, 2022, 4:59 PM EDT

What are these bugs? They showed up out of nowhere on all my window screens and patio door. They're small enough to get through the window screen as well.

Expert Response

Hello,

I think it is a type of leafhopper, but I am not 100% positive. I see if I can get one our entomologist to help out and let you know.

Hello,

I heard back from the Entomologist. They are bark lice. They live on trees where they feed on lichens, fungi and algae that grow in bark crevices. We often find them in homes in the fall after a hard freeze. Make sure window screens are in good repair, and vacuum up the ones that do get in. They’ll be gone soon.

That makes sense. Our apartment is made out of wood on the exterior and we also have a few trees surrounding. Good to know they're nothing bad. Thank you so much.
