Plant identification #813320

Asked October 05, 2022, 6:14 PM EDT

Can you direct me to where I can take plants to see what they are and that they are safe for my pets. Or someone that can look and help me. I have about 6 plants that I am questioning, they are new to my yard and I didn't plant them.

Expert Response

Hi Lisa, with the pictures you've provided I can identify two of the three weeds.  Picture 4945451 looks like a mimosa (tree) seedling; picture 4999121 looks like pokeweed; the last picture 5053541doesn't provide enough detail or outstanding characteristics for me to identify.  You can pull this weed (leaves, stem and roots), bag the live sample in a ziploc, and bring to our Extension office (@ 461 Wyoming Road in Newark on the UD campus) for additional assistance.

I hope this is helpful to you.  Please feel free to reach out to me directly at <personal data hidden>, especially if you decide to drop off a sample to our office.

Thank you so much, i have a few more id like to find out about, would it be easier for me to send them to you directly or submit at the same place. These are relatively new to my house so i have no idea how they got there but i am trying to distinguish whats dangerous for my dogs and tortoise and whats safe.
