Plug-ins, Plums, and Apricots #813264

Asked October 05, 2022, 12:30 PM EDT

Hello, We are a genetics class and our question investigates the DNA relatedness of plums, plug it’s and apricots. We are writing to ask if we may obtain a leaf from each, for our DNA extraction. We presume the leaf will contain the most chloroplast DNA, but we could also use seeds or stems. Do you think this is reasonable? Is there someone at the University who I should contact instead? Thank you for your time and consideration.

You certainly get the most unique question award. You might try a local tree nursery for the leaves. The best source would be the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chaska. Part of their mission is research and education.
