My 60ft fir tree dead branches #813201

Asked October 04, 2022, 5:35 PM EDT

My 60ft fir tree has dead branches on one side from being overshadowed by elm tree. Elm tree has been cut back. The south side of fir is green. Should I be concerned?

Expert Response

Hello.  You tree appears to be healthy from what I can tell from the pictures.  You may want to prune back the dead branches and keep an eye on it.  It is not necessary to prune off the dead, but if the appearance is important to you, you can prune them.

In case you are unfamiliar with how to prune an evergreen, i attached a link to a paper that gives you details.
