Oblong wood-carder bee nest #813066

Asked October 03, 2022, 4:57 PM EDT

Hi, I believe I have a rather large Oblong Wood-Carder bee nest. They haven't been a problem all summer but are now getting aggressive. Is there someone who will come move them or should I kill the nest? I would rather not kill them. Thank you Sally

The photo is too blurred to definitively identify this as a wool-carder bee. They tend to be solitary. If it is a wool-carder bee, the males don’t have stingers.  If you wish to remove it do so in the evening when all bees are in the nest.  If you can tolerate it, the queen and all workers will be killed when temperatures drop below 20 degrees. See:  1.https://www.canr.msu.edu/news/michigan-insects-in-the-garden-season-2-week-6-wool-carder-bees
