Hello, thank you very much for this informative website. I was wondering if it would be possible to get your opinion on an ID, from the photos, for a nematode found inside and outside a plant - Begonia. They´re present in the substrate around the roots; inside the roots, leaves and stems. The host plant - Begonia, is reported as major host of Aphelenchoides fragariae and Ditylenchus dipsaci by CABI Invasive Species Compendium , but there are possibly other species that it could host. I struggle greatly with differentiating between them. Thank you very much for any help!

Sorry, but nematode identification from several pictures is not something that is normally done. The nematodes would have to be sent to a nematode specialist so that they can look at all the features (most nematodes require the use of a phase-contrast microscope or special stains) for correct identification. At present, our diagnostic clinic is moving all its services to Wooster, OH (at OARDC) and I'm not sure they have a nematologist available. I have sent a message to Plant Pathology to determine if they have a specialist that can perform identifications, and if not, where such a service be obtained.
Checked in with the faculty and staff at Plant Pathology. Currently, Dr. Horacio Lopez-Nicora is the plant-parasitic nematode scientist and he is willing to look at your images and receive a sample for analysis. He works through the plant and pest diagnostic clinic group and his nematode ID fee is $20. You can contact him via email (to send him images and get his mailing address): <personal data hidden>
