What is wrong with my butternut squash vine? #812453

Asked September 27, 2022, 10:34 PM EDT

The leaves and stems on my butternut squash have been shriveling. This has been progressing for the past two weeks or so. I doubt it's a watering issue but if anything I think it would be overwatering. I don't see any signs of vine borers and there is no white liquid if I make a cut so I don't think it's bacterial wilt. The main vines seem sturdy and stiff and the stems to the leaves seem more like flimsy straws, especially to the leaves that aren't doing well. I apply a liquid fertilizer (2-2-2) every 2 weeks.

Expert Response

You have ruled out bacterial wilt so my second guess would be Powdery Mildew.  Good news, it is almost the end of the season and your squash should still ripen.
