I gave my daughter in law a start from my hibiscus. She sent this picture of something on the stem. Do you have any idea what it could be?

Expert Response

Hi Sharon, yes, they are the eggs of the Lacewing that is a VERY beneficial insect.  The larvae are peculiar looking, and they eat aphids and keep the plants from having an aphid attack of major proportions.  The eggs are laid on a long stalk to prevent predation from other insects that like to eat eggs of other insects.  People can also buy the eggs and release them into their environment to biologically control insect pests.  Read the attached fact sheet to find out more.  https://ohioline.osu.edu/factsheet/ent-72
Hope this helps you.  Don
