Identify bee/wasp #811949

Asked September 23, 2022, 12:41 PM EDT

There are bees nesting in the ground of a bed below my living room window. I was stung in the spring while trying to spread mulch but left them alone so as not to harm potential pollinators. The other day they were frenzied and buzzing into the glass that sounded like rain. One was in the house so I swatted it and then the frenzy subsided. The next morning I found two of them dead on the floor inside the house by the window where the entrances to the nest are outside. Please tell me what kind of bee or wasp this is so I can find a solution to securing my home from them. Thank you.

Expert Response

Those are Yellowjacket wasps (Vespula spp.)
