Worm/parasite identification #811904

Asked September 23, 2022, 1:26 AM EDT

Hello,

I was having a frozen meal and noticed that it looked odd, to my shocking discovery a large worm like thing was in it.

Could this be identified? I cleaned it off best I could, was caught in cheese, but it's far too fleshy and gross to be anything that should be in a frozen meal.

Expert Response

Hi Cody,
Although the USA has the safest food supply in the world, things can happen.  Do not eat the product.  Did you notice any compromised packaging?  I would contact the manufacturer so they can be aware and on the lookout if there is an issue.  Include as much information from the packaging as possible.  They will want to look for lot code, expiration, size, type of meal etc.

It is too difficult to id the object based on the photo. If you are intent on finding out the object, depending on the state, you should be able to find a local Extension office and bringing that into an office may assist in id'ing as they can put under a microscope.  Put the specimen into a container of hand sanitizer solution, so it won't dry out.

Thanks for contacting us!
