collecting seeds #811871

Asked September 22, 2022, 6:44 PM EDT

I've been busy collecting seeds for next year's annuals. I recently heard that more seeds are now sterile. If I bought a lot of new seed packets this last spring, how would I know if the seeds are now unable to produce plants that will bloom next year?

Thank you for writing.
I believe the information you want is here on hybrids. https://extension.sdstate.edu/saving-seed-will-seed-produce-plants-similar-plant-it-was-collected
The other question is viability.  There is a simple test for this.
This is the best one. https://getbusygardening.com/how-to-test-viability-of-old-seeds/
