Iris 1 #811866

I have iris in pots that have been out all summer. How do I over winter them? They survived last winter in my house, but didn't bloom in the spring.

Expert Response

If you leave them outside, you should bury the pots in the ground.

If you want them to bloom next year start fertilizing them in early spring. Potting soil becomes depleted of nutrients pretty quickly.

I would recommend a time-release fertilizer in the pots such as Osmocote and a fertilizer for flowering plants once a month during the summer.

Do not fertilize them this fall.
