I recently found this "mold" like growth along my flower garden which is on the north side of our house and is shaded most of the day. Is there anything that I can do to stop it from spreading or will winter freezing solve the problem? Thanks for your expert advice.

Hello Kathleen
This is a type of fungi called slime mold. It is harmless to people and pets. As the area dries it will dry up and disintegrate on its own. Or, you may rake it up and dispose of it in the trash.

Thanks for getting back with me so quickly! I am relieved it's harmless and will not need any chemical treatments. I will rake it up right now! Thanks again.
