Hi Jessica- Thanks for your great picture of the eggs of a very industrious, geometrical insect! I cannot exactly match it to any of the pictures in my tracks and signs book, but it seems to match some internet pictures for the Large Yellow Underwing moth which hatches into the Winter Cutworm.

If you feel like putting the leaves in a jar and watching what happens, you can send a picture of the larvae when they hatch and maybe get a confirmation ID.

It seems to be a good year for insect hatches and thanks for sending in the great pictures!
