Gardening help-Pumpkin vine #809796

Asked September 07, 2022, 9:39 AM EDT

Hi there. I've tried to grow a pumpkin vine. It was doing great until recently. I'm trying to understand what happened to it and what I need to do. I'm a first time gardener and tried to research on my own but couldn't find the answer. At one point there was these little bugs that I had problems identifying as well. Were they the cause? What could I have done to prevent this?

It looks like there are a few things going on. Did you plant from seed or did you start with transplants? In the future you will want to do a soil sample as well. Looks like there could be some nutrient deficiency among other things. Such as a fungus.

Hello there yes it was from a seed. It was doing wonderfully until about a week or so ago. Should I just cut  it up? Or dig it out? I know that diseased plants shouldn't stay in because of the risk of it spreading. I have basil and cherry tomatoes in the same raised bed (which in hindsight probably wasn't a good idea??) And am not sure what I need to do for the fall/winter. Am I supposed to just let everything die and cover with organic material ? Any insight will be truly appreciated

Did pumpkins ever form? If you do not have any pumpkins on the vines, I would just pull them up and dispose.

Once all your plants are no longer producing, pull them up and throw away. Its best to put out a cover crop so the soil doesn't stay bare over the winter.
