Clumps of leaves falling from Oak Trees #809260

I have a many oak trees in my yard, but I have one maybe two trees that are dropping clumps of leaves in the yard. The leaves are all green and usually have perhaps part of a branch attached to it. It’s been going on for about a week. None of the other oaks in my yard of which there are many, are not affected. But looking around my neighborhood, I see other oak trees that are experiencing the same problem. It’s not just one or two clumps that have fallen, there is a carpet of leaves that have fallen. Any idea what could be causing this?

Hi, Usually when we see this at this time of year it is the oak tree twig girdler altho with this drought, it might be squirrels. There is not really much you can do about either. Most likely the tree was able to produce enough sugars and starches to see it through the winter. In the past, there was still a Cooperative Extension Center in Barnstable that was funded by the county and not the state. You can check and see if that was still the case and they may know more about which pest it is.
