Rot on butternut squash #809202

Asked September 02, 2022, 1:51 PM EDT

Hi, we noticed some rotted spots on one of our butternut squash recently, and are pretty sure it's a fungus. Our squash plants are trellised along a fence, so they're off the ground. Our question is whether we can still eat the squash even though it has the rotted spots, or should we just cut it off and throw it away?

That appears to be sunscorch. https://pestadvisories.usu.edu/2017/08/31/sunburnsunscald-in-vegetables-squash-diseases-spider-mites-sap-beetles-corn-earworm-new-fact-sheet-and-upcoming-events/
I use a garden UV cloth when we have a run of hot, super sunny weather.
