redbud tree, some yellow leaves, brown spots and bite marks #809123

Asked September 01, 2022, 6:45 PM EDT

My tree is just a few years old. Can you give me advice on how to treat it? Both green and yellow leaves have bite marks and brown spots. Thanks much! Patricia

Expert Response

Good Morning Patricia,

I am attaching a link: https://trees.umn.edu/northern-strain-redbud-cercis-canadensis-northern-strain to the U of M website that discusses redbud trees.

And from the Missouri Botanical Gardens: https://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?taxonid=263859&isprofile=0

The above information indicates the tree could be subject to Japanese beetles (holes in the leaves) and verticillium wilt. This link: https://hort.extension.wisc.edu/articles/verticillium-wilt-of-trees-and-shrubs/ discusses the wilt.

The above information indicates that the leaves will turn yellow in the fall.

I also have a redbud tree that I love! Good Luck!
