Is this a Northern Pacific Tree Frog? #808831
Asked August 30, 2022, 7:09 PM EDT
This little frog was inside a closed storage container on our patio. iNaturalist identified it as a Northern Pacific Tree Frog, Pseudacris regilla. It seems to have unusual marking for this species, but I realize that they can also be brown. Can you please give me a positive identification?

Hello Patricia,
Thank you for reaching out to OSU Extension Service and for providing these terrific photos!
Yes, indeed, this is the Pacific Treefrog (Pseudacris regilla). The frog you have photographed shows how much variation there is with this species. Some are a bright green with the characteristic dark stripe across the eye, while others are a brown color with either no pattern (other than the dark eye stripe) or with darker blotches, like the one you photographed.
You can see how varied they can be by going to this photo library from the University of California, Berkeley (https://calphotos.berkeley.edu/cgi/img_query?stat=BROWSE&where-lifeform=Amphibian&where-namesoup=Pacific+Treefrog&rel-namesoup=matchphrase&title_tag=Pacific+Treefrog).
Thank you again for sending these photos and for your question! If you have any further questions, please let me know.
