Ash tree losing bark #808679

I am sending some picture of an ash tree in my yard. As you can see the bark has pulled from the base of the trunk. Overall, it looks pretty healthy, but I’m worried about losing it. There are dead branches, but they appear to only be on one side of the tree. This tree has always dropped quite a few branches in storms and wind etc.
Are you able to inform me if there is anything that can be done to keep this tree healthy?
Thank you!

This is a question that is best answered by an onsite assessment by an arborist. The depth of the cracks will be measured to determine if the the dying branches are a sign that this is a dangerous tree and may fall over. They will also look for signs of disease. There are quite a few reasons for canopy dieback that can’t be assessed through pictures. See: https://apps.extension.umn.edu/garden/diagnose/plant/deciduous/elm/branchesdead.html
There is also evidence that this tree was planted too deep. There is no root flare visible and rocks are touching the trunk.
While it is true that ash trees normally drop a lot of branches, the cracks and extent of dead branches in the canopy needs an onsite assessment. See:
