It is in full sun and blooming now. Asclepias genus, perhaps?

Hi Bev,
It is more likely celosia, aka "cockscomb", a member of the 
amaranthaceae family.  Although sold as an annual, it can reseed itself and come back in late summer.  Seeds are transplanted by birds, so it may have been planted in someone else's garden.
