Sap at base of large Douglas Fir #807651

Asked August 23, 2022, 12:18 PM EDT

I recently noticed sap oozing near the base of our Douglas Fir (approximately 80 feet tall) as well as white streaks below the oozing sap. Is this due to the heat, or is the tree possibly diseased?

Expert Response

Hello,

Thanks for your question. With such little sap, it is hard to say whether or this is caused by drought, fungi, or insects. Unless you see a copious amount of resin at the base of the tree, it should not be anything to worry about.
