I have a blue spruce that has died back from the tip of the tree. I noticed a white sticky substance running down the trunk. (Picture attached). I read that this might be cytospora canker, but all the descriptions seem to mention that this starts at the bottom of the tree. Any chance this would be pine wilt?
I cut out the dead and disposed of it. My concerns are (1) what is it and is it treatable, and (2) whether it could spread to 10 others that are in line with it.

Cytospora canker usually starts at the bottom of the tree, but can start at other parts of the tree. If you google University of Minnesota Extension and go to the top at the search box and type Cytospora Canker and then click on the first one at the top, it will tell you how to deal with this canker. Thank you for your question.
