Dry semi shade #806032

Asked August 13, 2022, 12:18 AM EDT

Part of my front yard is increasingly shaded part of the day by the City’s Norway maple that is taking most moisture. I mainly plant natives. My soil is clay sand and rock or pebbles. Of course the drought made things worse. So far Lychnis seems the only thing that is all right. Do you have any suggestions? I do not want a lawn. Thank you.

You still have lots of options.  I'm attaching a link to Best Plants for 30 Tough Sites, an excellent and free Master Gardener booklet that lists plants that will work for your site.  See page 16 for planting in dry shade, and see also the chapters on clay soil and trees, shrubs, and perennials for shade.
