Cleaning up loads of stilt grass, creeping charley and other weeds, I came across this plant .

This is a type of groundcherry (Physalis sp). We have several species in Maryland, with clammy groundcherry being the most common one. They are easy to pull out if you want to remove them before they disperse seeds.
