Okra pods dropping off #804607

Asked August 04, 2022, 12:09 PM EDT

Hi there - I’m growing okra for the first time this year. It’s just one plant in a large pot on my eastern facing deck that gets light until about 2 pm. I’m puzzled because the plant looks really healthy but it’s dropping pods long before they’re mature. I did some online research which suggests it may be related to the extreme heat so perhaps it will stop if the weather ever really improves but in the meantime is there anything I could/should be doing to make it happier (and give me yummy okra to eat)? I’ve attached photos of the plant itself and one of the recent dropped pods. I know the little beads on the plant are normal (looked that up too!). Thanks in advance, Elizabeth

Thank you for your question, Elizabeth.  Although the following Extension article is from South Carolina, it indicates what this crop needs to thrive, and provides both tips for maintenance and ideas about why pods drop:  https://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheet/okra/
I hope this is helpful.  Good luck!
