Identification of 3 pests on our farm #804475
Asked August 03, 2022, 4:02 PM EDT
At our farm on Gordon Creek Rd. in Corbett, we have recently seen 3 things that haven't appeared before in the 38 years we've lived here:
1. There are small beetles, about 1.4 inch, green color, that have appeared in some of our flower planters, sometimes clustered in bunches in the early morning (see first image).
2. We are concerned that big leaf maple trees may be dying. As we walk through the forest over the last week, we've noticed a white discoloration on top of maple leaves (see 2nd image)
3. This morning we noticed a yellow fungus growing in a raised garden bed among cucumbers. (3rd image)
Any idea what these are?
Thanks

Thank you for your questions, John.
1. I am unable to see the detail on the green metallic beetle well enough to tell you which of the species it is of these: https://www.beetleidentification.org/beetles-by-state-listing.php?reach=Oregon It would be helpful to know which plants they are on in your planters and what damage (likely chewing) they are causing.
2. The white/gray coating on the leaves is powdery mildew, described here: https://pnwhandbooks.org/plantdisease/host-disease/maple-acer-spp-powdery-mildew
3. The yellow growth appears to be one of several slime molds (actually not fungi) growing upon organic matter in the soil. Here is an OSU article about them: https://today.oregonstate.edu/news/slime-mold-looks-ugly-garden-does-no-harm
Hope these are helpful.
