Tiny Flying Bug(s) in Kitchen area #803462

Asked July 28, 2022, 11:26 AM EDT

Good Afternoon,

We've had these small, tiny, flying insects around our kitchen for the past few months.

At first I thought they were fruit flies from bananas so we haven't bought banana's in months.

Then I thought they were coming from either the kitchen sink drains or my wife's house plants.

They don't seem to be the larger "drain flies" that you see in bathroom areas.

They are very hard to see and you only notice them when they fly right by your face - they are also small enough that they generally are out of your sight within a few seconds as they get lost in the background. I can generally only see them within 2 feet of my face. They appear to be 3mm in length. They have dark and light color bands on their bodies.

I was able to catch these insects, in the pictures below, with a simple dish soap water in a bowl under a light at night time. I can usually catch 2-4 a night. They seems to be attracted to the soap bubbles (rainbow colors??) and usually get trapped in them.

I would like to know what these insects are so I can research them if someone could tell me some effective control measures I can take to get rid of them.

Here's another pic of one that I caught in a small plastic container, filled with water & Dawn dish soap...they don't do well when they hit the bubbles!
