Hello,
I cut a pine tree down about a month ago. Last night I was out by the wood pile to hear a chomping noise and see pin holes and sawdust on the wood. Do you know what it is & what treatment I need to do?
Thank you

Expert Response
This is the normal process of decomposition. As soon as a plant dies, all of its normal defenses stop and insects and bacteria begin to digest it to turn it into compost.

Thank you for writing.
Do you know what bug it would be? How can I prevent this If I cut wood for a woodworking project? Will it or could it get into my lumber &/or home construction?
Thanks
John
Thank you for clarifying your question!
