Is this oak anthracnose? #802811
Asked July 24, 2022, 9:29 PM EDT
Hello,
I have an oak tree in my backyard in Laurel, MD that has within the past 3 weeks started dropping a noticeable amount of leaves. The leaves, both those dropped as well as a majority still on the branch, are discolored brown, typically more so at the tip end of the leaf. I read on the extension's site that Anthracnose down not typically cause leaf drop. Have I misdiagnosed this issue?
Howard County Maryland
Expert Response
Hi Andrew!
Yes, this is oak anthracnose, but it does not cause leaf drop! The leaf drop is likely caused by heat and drought stress. Anthracnose, while showy, does not actually have a lasting impact on the tree. No management is recommended.
