Hibiscus leaves #802781

Asked July 24, 2022, 5:23 PM EDT

What do you think is going on with my hibiscus plant. It's been outdoors for a couple months now... And I just noticed these brown spots on some of the leaves.

Carver County Minnesota

Expert Response

The spots may be a reaction to intense sunlight called sun scald or the result or insects feeding on the leaf surface.

Some of the leaves appear to be cupped.  It's difficult to tell without seeing more detail, but this might be caused by drift from herbicides used nearby.  Or it might also be a response to intense heat and sun.

Thanks for the follow up... It was in direct sun and probably too much of it so I've moved it to a less sunny area now. We'll see if I still keep getting them on the leaves. We haven't sprayed any herbicide of any kind so that shouldn't be it.
