Azalea leaf damage #802779

Asked July 24, 2022, 5:18 PM EDT

What’s wrong with my azaleas? What can I do about it?

Trumbull County Ohio

Expert Response

Hello,

Can you give me a little history on the damage. When did it first occur? Was anything sprayed on the plant(s)? Do the new leaves appear to be normal or affected?

A higher resolution image or close-up of the leaves would be helpful as well.
Thank yoU!

Hi,

Nothing was sprayed on the azalea. The damage first appeared shortly before I contacted you. I don’t believe any of the new growth has been affected. Not sure if it’s insects or disease.

Thank you!

I shared this with our environmental horticulture team - and all agree that you should submit a sample for diagnosis. diagnostic lab is presently closed until the fall, so you may instead send a sample to:

Dr. Francesca Peduto Hand
The Ohio State University
c/o BEHT
475C Kottman Hall
Columbus, OH, 43210

I will notify her that a sample of azalea will be coming.
Thank you!
